Car Insurance Land Rover (Car Insurance). possibly electrical problem, camaro?possibly electrical problem, camaro? i had brake lights and blinkers in the rear on my 1988 camaro on the passanger side. but nothing on the drivers side besides the hazards. then i drove it a lil' and now there are no running lights or brake lights at all in the back. obviously electrical, but could it be a ground wire (someone suggested that to me) if so where would this ground wire be? --- there are 2 wires by the fuse panel that arent connected, one is a semi-thick red wire w/ fuses on the end of it (idk where to plug it in) and there is a thin black line that is cut. if these arent the ground, any clue what they are? all fuses are good. It's probably not the ground wire or the hazards wouldn't work either. More likely the turn signal switch, which can also kill the brake lights on one side if it's bad. Have you checked the bulbs and replaced them all.. I have seen where one side of the bulb blows out while the other works...but I would check each bulb and replace, check each socket with a test light, each fuse, and then chase the wire harness for cracks/barespots/brokenplaces.. but the ground lead for the rear is usually located around the latch area or towards the end of the harness(around the drivers side) There's a ground in the trunk that's for the back lights - I believe its on the passenger's side up along the q-panel wall. You can check/clean that - that's a common problem in fourth gen camaros as well. Auto parts : A/C Hose Adapter Acura 1995 . A/C Leak Sealer Alfa Romeo 1996 . A/C Machine Audi 1997 . Can you put regular bulbs in your bright headlamps? Can you put regular bulbs in your bright headlamps? My car has an electrical problem where one of the regular headlamps keeps intermittently going off, and no one can figure out what it is. I don't have a day off for another two weeks so I can't drop it off to have my mechanic get really in depth with it but I HAVE to drive at night and I don't want some insane $120 ticket for having a headlamp out so I'm wondering if for the next two weeks they could put regular bulbs in my brights and disconnect the other regular lamp so it will look like I have functioning headlights (I live in the city and NEVER have to use my brights anyway). car insurance. Land Rover . How To Rebuild The Front Master Cylinder On a 1973 HarleyMaster cylinders designed for single caliper operation have a 9/16-inch bore. Those designed for dual caliper operation have a 11/16-inch bore. Do not remove the master cylinder without placing a 5/32-inch cardboard insert between the lever and bracket. Failure to do so will result in damage to the boot and brake switch. Purchase a rebuild kit from Harley-Davidson or online to replace any worn or broken parts. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need 5/32-inch piece of cardboard Pliers Philips head screw driver Denatured alcohol Clean air supply Lint free cloth T27 torx screw driver Lubricant Brake fluid H-D Front Master Cylinder Rebuild KitFront Master Cylinder Disassembly and Inspection Step by Step : 1 Remove the retaining ring, pivot pin and brake lever. Using pliers pull the outer piston cap to remove the wiper seal. Remove the piston, the O-ring, the primary cup and spring. Remove the cover and gasket. 2 Clean all parts in denatured alcohol. Do not contaminate with other solvents. Wipe dry with a lint free cloth, and blow all passages and bore with a clean air supply. 3 Inspect all parts for wear or damage and replace if necessary. 4 Inspect the piston bore in the the master cylinder housing for scoring, pitting or corrosion. Replace the housing if any of these conditions are visible. 5 Inspect the outlet port that mates with the brake line fitting, as a crucial sealing surface. Replace the housing if any scratches or other damage is visible. 6 Inspect the cover gasket for cuts or deterioration. Replace if necessary. Front Master Cylinder Assembly Step by Step : 1 Fit the O-ring into the groove at the front of the piston pin side. 2 Fit the primary cup over lip at the back of the piston so that the closed side (smaller OD) contacts the shoulder. 3 Coat the piston bore of the housing with special lubricant, also apply the lubricant to OD of installed O-ring and primary cup. 4 Insert the spring into the master cylinder bore so that it seats against the recess at the bottom. Slide the piston over the spring and fit wiper over piston cap so that the flat side of wiper contacts cap shoulder. Fit the piston cap over the piston pin. Press down on the wiper until it contacts the counter bore. Larger OD of wiper must be completely seated in the groove on the outlet side of the piston bore. 5 Install the cover with gasket on the master cylinder reservoir. Install two screws to fasten the cover to the reservoir, but do not tighten at this time. Align the hole in the brake hand lever with the hole in the master cylinder bracket. From the top of the assembly, slide the pivot pin through the bracket and hand lever. Install the retaining ring. Tighten the reservoir cover screws. Tips & Warnings Make sure to use the 5/32 piece of cardboard, failure to do so will result in damage to the boot and brake switch. Use denatured alcohol to clean brake system components. Do not use mineral-based solvents (gasoline-paint thinners). This will deteriorate rubber parts, even after assembly. Deterioration of these components can cause brake failure, which could result in death or serious injury. ResourcesHarley-Davidson
Land Rover . How to Replace a Master Cylinder on a '98 Grand AmThe 1998 Pontiac Grand Am uses a hydraulic braking system to stop the car. The braking system starts at the master cylinder, where the brake fluid is stored. Once the brake pedal is pressed, the fluid is sent through the brake lines and to the calipers. The fluid is used to activate the calipers and push them against the rotors. This enables the car to stop. If the master cylinder develops a leak, this will cause the brakes to function improperly. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Line wrench set Socket set Socket wrench Drain pan Master cylinder Assistant for bleeding brakes Rubber hose Dot 3 brake fluidReplacing the Master Cylinder Step by Step : 1 Open the hood for access to the engine compartment. The master cylinder is located at the back of the engine compartment. 2 Unscrew the brake lines from the master cylinder with a line wrench. Ensure there is a drain pan under the master cylinder to catch the brake fluid. 3 Unbolt the master cylinder from the power booster. The master cylinder has two bolts that need to be unscrewed with a socket wrench. Pull the master cylinder off the power booster. Remove the top of the master cylinder and allow all the brake fluid to drain in to the drain pan. 4 Tighten the new master cylinder to the power booster with a socket wrench. Ensure both the bolts are tight. 5 Replace the o-rings in the brake lines before threading the brake lines to the master cylinder. Start tightening the brake lines to the master cylinder by hand. Ensure the lines are tight with a line wrench. 6 Open the top on the master cylinder and pour in DOT 3 brake fluid. Do not pour over the amount indicated by a line on the side of the cylinder. Bleeding the Brakes Step by Step : 1 Locate the bleeder valve on the brake assembly on the rear passenger side wheel so you can bleed the brakes. The valve will look like a small nozzle. The brakes must be bled after replacing the master cylinder. Otherwise, the brakes won't work properly. 2 Fit a rubber hose to the end of the valve. Place the other end of the hose in a clean bottle. 3 Instruct an assistant to sit in the driver seat and start the car. The assistant will be required to pump the brake pedal. 4 Open the bleeder valve by turning the valve one full turn with a line wrench. Instruct the assistant to press and release the brake pedal repeatedly. Close the valve when clean and clear brake fluid flows out of the bleeder valve. Repeat this step to ensure all the air is out of the brake line. 5 Check the brake fluid level. Fill if necessary. Do not allow the master cylinder to go empty. Failure to do so will cause air to be released back in to the brake lines. The lines will have to be bled again. 6 Bleed the remaining three bleeder valves. Bleed the three remaining wheels. Tips & Warnings Use DOT 3 brake fluid in the master cylinder. Bleeding the front brakes are simpler if the assistant turns the steering wheel toward the wheel being bled. Use caution when working under the vehicle. Ensure the car is parked on a flat, level surface. *describe each of these service options so that you can choose the type that's best for you. Dealerships <\V tr When they buy a new vehicle, many people assume that they have to use the dealership's service facilities, at least until the warranty period is over. Be aware that, in most cases, you can have warranty service (but not repairs) done by any licensed independent mechanic, as long as all the service requirements in your owner's manual are fulfilled. (There are some exceptions, so read your warranties before going elsewhere for specialized work.) Of course, you may want to stay with the dealer who sold you the vehicle, because dealerships may offer the following advantages: * They often provide extra services to ensure goodwill. Not only can they make more profit on years of service to your vehicle, but they also want you to come back to them when it's time to buy another one. * They usually have a variety of factory-trained specialists right on the premises. The advantage is that you can have brake work, transmission work, and sometimes even bodywork done at the same place. 973

This not only assures you of satisfaction if parts fail, but original parts may increase the resale value of your vehicle. * If you have a complaint, you're dealing with an established company that's financially able to reimburse you and that's insured to cover any major lawsuits that may result. However, dealerships have disadvantages to consider as well: u* Dealerships are often more expensive than other types of service facilities. Independent shops usually have a lower overhead to support. i*" The sales and service departments of a dealership are often operated as separate entities. You may find that the service department doesn't really care all that much about your goodwill and whether you buy another vehicle from the dealership. Instead, the attitude may be, "We have more work than we can handle, so if you're not happy here, you can go somewhere else." Land Rover . Honda Insight. * .Chapter 22: When All Else Fails: Finding and Dealing with a Good Mechanic You probably won't receive the personalized service that you may get from an independent mechanic. You generally deal with a service writer at the dealership who then assigns your car to whichever technician is available when its number comes up. Of course, if you build a good relationship with the service writer, he or she may honor your request for a specific technician who is familiar with your vehicle and its foibles. Chain and department stores Large chain stores and department stores that have automotive service departments offer another set of pros and cons: They're generally less expensive than dealerships. They usually stock a wide variety of parts, many of which are made to their specifications and carry their brand name. How these parts compare in price and quality to the original equipment supplied by the car manufacturer varies, depending on which chain you deal with. The only time you absolutely don't want to use anything but original equipment is when you're restoring a classic car. They usually provide good guarantees on parts and labor. And if you Land Rover .
